The Palatka-to-St. Augustine State Trail guides hikers through the historic city of Armstrong. Along the trailside, visitors are still able to see the remains of St. Mary’s African Methodist Episcopal Church, built in 1914. Along the former Florida East Coast Railway, Armstrong is one of the oldest African American communities in St. Johns County.
