Deacon Carlton Scarlett Celebrating His Ninety First Birthday.

Deacon Carlton Scarlett celebrated his 91st birthday on Friday, January 24, 2020. He began his day with prayer and meditation and from there went to Mount Ararat Cemetery to visit with all of his loving family members who have gone on to be with the Lord. Some of his family members buried at Mount Ararat are his grandmother, Mrs. Mary Wells-Jones; father Mr. Clifford Scarlett; mother, Rosetta Scarlett and all his siblings, Mr. Clifford Scarlett, Jr., Mr. Bernard Scarlett, Mr. Donald Scarlett, and Mrs. Yvonne Scarlett-Golden, the first African American Mayor of Daytona Beach. Carlton is the last living sibling of his family.

Following his visit at Mount Ararat, his wife, Bobby J. Scarlett, drove him through his old neighborhood in Midtown, where he was born. The old family home is still standing and is located at 535 Center Street, now known as Division Street. At the time he was born, this house was considered to be a very modern house for African Americans because it had an indoor bathroom, electricity and running water (See photo). He stated that they were able to live in such a house because his father was the chauffeur for Mr. Edward H. Armstrong, who later became the Mayor of Daytona Beach.

On Saturday, January 25, 2020, a birthday celebration was held at the home of Carlton and Bobby J. Scarlett. It was a joyous and happy occasion with family and friends fellowshipping together for several hours. Carlton stated, "that this was his best birthday yet and he is very thankful to God for blessing him to still be here in his right mind and with relatively good health." To God be the glory for the great things he has done!
