Yesterday the city of Daytona Beach made history by selecting Deputy Chief Jakari Young to serve as the next police Chief for the Daytona Beach Police Department. He will be the agency's 17th police Chief in over 100 years and the first African American to serve that role.
He is exceptionally qualified and is committed to working everyday to not only keep our community safe, but improve the relationship between law enforcement and those they are sworn to protect and serve. I wish Chief Young much success and I look forward to attending his swearing in ceremony next week.
