Today was a historic day in Daytona Beach as the community came together for the unveiling of a bronze statue honoring Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune. The statue resides in Bethune Plaza, which is at the intersection of Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Boulevard and Beach Street, at the Riverfront Esplanade.
Created by master sculptor Nilda Comas, the statue is nearly identical to the marble one that was also created by Comas and unveiled at the U.S. Capitol’s National Statuary Hall State Collection in July 2022.
