Mary Allen is Executive Director and Curator of the African American Museum of the Arts, Inc. in Deland, Florida. Mrs. Allen earned her B.A. degree in Elementary Education from Jersey City University and a Master of Arts degree in Urban Education from William Paterson University in Wayne, New Jersey. Her involvement with the Museum began as a volunteer in 1999. She was promoted to Event Coordinator in 2001 and has served as Executive Director since 2008.

Mrs. Allen has led the Museum as its Executive Director, greatly elevating it’s standing in the community and Volusia County through excellent educational, historical, and cultural programs. She partners with a variety of area organizations to provide free opportunities and programs for our youth. In February of 2021, in Recognition of Black History Month, Mrs. Allen received a Proclamation Award for her service to the community from the County Council of Volusia County.
